MINUSCA mobilizes to support local elections in the Central African Republic

The United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) signed, on February 14 in Bangui, with the Central African government, the Integrated Plan for the Securing of Local Elections Renovated (PISE) in view of municipal and regional elections scheduled for this year, informs a statement issued Wednesday by the UN press service.

This PISE was initialed by the Prime Minister, Felix Moloua, the President of the National Elections Authority (ANE), Mathias Barthélémy Morouba and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for the Central African Republic, Valentine Rugwabiza.

The day after the signing, MINUSCA recalled the importance of this tool in view of the local elections of 2023, as well as the necessary commitment of all national parties in the holding of peaceful and inclusive elections, the document underlines.

The signing of the plan constitutes a “major development” and an “essential tool in the preparation and securing of the elections, but also the synergies necessary for inclusive and peaceful elections”, said MINUSCA spokesperson Vladimir Monteiro. , quoting the Special Representative, during the Mission’s weekly press conference.

Rugwabiza is counting on the high level of commitment and determination of all the national parties, “to spare no effort, for peaceful, consensual, violence-free, inclusive elections open to all, including groups who have been traditionally marginalized, women and young people,” according to the spokesperson.

According to the head of MINUSCA, the government’s commitment to the elections encourages “international partners to provide the necessary support for local elections in 2023”.

In addition, the Special Representative congratulated the Central African defense and security forces as well as the MINUSCA force and police “for the healthy, intelligent and dynamic collaboration between the Central African State, the United Nations and their respective forces in the services Peace”.
