The member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) decided to “maintain the existing sanctions” against Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso, during a meeting held on Saturday February 19, in margin of the African Union (AU) summit in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), according to the final communiqué of the meeting, attached. More than that, ECOWAS has imposed travel bans on government members and other high-ranking officials from the three countries, currently led by military personnel who took power through coups.
The ECOWAS meeting aimed, among other things, to review the progress made in the transition processes in the three states. After taking note of the reports presented by each of the delegations of these countries, relating to the implementation of the transition roadmaps, the West African Heads of State spoke about each country, with supporting recommendations. .
