Germany wants to set up centers for migration in nine African countries with the intention of filling its lack of skilled labor, according to information relayed by RFI.
The project was presented in Ghana on Tuesday by German Labor Minister Hubertus Heil, who suggested that his country plans to use “all possible options”, both at home and abroad, “to attract skilled labour”.
The initiative consists of selecting qualified people, meeting certain criteria, to benefit from the possibility of settling in Germany, a country that wants to fill the shortage of skilled workers.
Ghana already hosts a center opened in Accra in 2017, responsible for supporting Ghanaians who arrived in Germany illegally and who have consented to return voluntarily to their country, with support from the German authorities. Berlin wants to add to this structure the mission of selecting qualified people who want to go to Germany, and intends to invest ten million euros in this project.
Among the nine other countries targeted by Berlin are Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Indonesia. Germany believes that its project will benefit the various parties that will be affected.
