Tunisian director Youssef Chebbi won the Yennenga Gold Stallion on Saturday with his film “Ashkal”, on the occasion of the 28th edition of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) which took place from February 25 to March 4, under the theme “African cinema and culture of peace”.

Worth twenty million CFA francs, this biggest FESPACO prize was awarded to a representative of Chebbi, himself absent at the trophy ceremony, by the Burkinabè president, captain Ibrahima Traoré.

Burkinabè director Apolline Traoré won the Silver Stallion for her film “Sira”, while the Bronze Stallion was given to Kenyan Angela Wamai for her film Shimoni.

The Burkinabè authorities are pleased to have taken up the challenge of organizing this largest African film festival in a context marked by insecurity.

“We had a good track record and it is Africa that wins. It was a huge challenge for Burkina Faso to organize this 28th edition of FESPACO”, declared the Burkinabè Minister in charge of the Arts.

And to continue, “it was also a way for us to show that despite all the difficulties and security pressure, Burkina Faso remains standing as well as African culture”.

The appointment has been made for the 29th edition of FESPACO scheduled for the period from February 22 to March 1, 2025.
