CAF awards its Prize for Excellence for the year 2022 to King Mohammed VI and President Paul Kagame

The African Football Confederation (CAF) awarded, on Tuesday March 14 in Kigali, the Rwandan capital, its Excellence Award of the Year 2022 to HM King Mohammed VI and Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

This Prize, which rewards the Exceptional achievements recorded, was awarded during a ceremony organized for this purpose, in the presence of the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, the members of the Executive Committee of CAF, the presidents of the Member Associations of CAF and football legends.

For the Moroccan Sovereign, his “CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award” was entrusted to the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa by the President of FIFA and the President of CAF, Patrice Motsepe.

“We are here to celebrate two exceptional personalities who have given a lot to football and have changed the lives of millions of people,” underlined Infantino, adding that HM King Mohammed VI and President Kagame are two leaders “who have contributed to change in their countries and believed in the ambitions of their peoples and that football can change many things on the African continent”.

The prowess achieved by the Moroccan team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was widely praised at this meeting. The Atlas Lions indeed became the first African team to reach the semi-finals, finishing fourth; a great first also in the history of the country.

Moreover, a video that traces the historic journey of the Atlas Lions at the Qatar-2022 World Cup was broadcast during the award ceremony.

The performance of the Moroccan team in Qatar was “a source of pride and honor for all Africans”, as well as a “source of inspiration”, recognized the Rwandan Head of State who conveyed his congratulations to the King Mohammed VI for this “important” feat.
