Three Chinese nationals, prosecuted for murder, were sentenced to death on Tuesday March 14 by a military court in the province of Lualaba, located in the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Wang Tsu, Wang wi and Zidane were sentenced for “extortion, illegal possession of munitions of war and terrorism” after killing, on December 30, 2022, a businessman, the Chinese Zing who was resident in Kolwezi (capital of the province of Lualaba).
They must also pay 20 million US dollars in damages to the family of the deceased.
The fourth detainee in the same case, the Congolese Abdallah, was on the other hand returned free by the judicial authority.
Note that the sentence against the three Chinese is commuted to life imprisonment since the DRC is a signatory to the moratorium on the abolition of the death penalty. Although it continues to be pronounced by the courts, this sentence has not been applied for many years.
