The President of the Transition in Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta, has validated the draft new Constitution submitted to him, according to a government press release published on Wednesday March 15 and signed by the government spokesperson, Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga.
“Following the submission of the draft Constitution by the finalization commission, the transitional government informs that the president of the transition, Head of State, Colonel Assimi Goïta has validated the draft Constitution which was solemnly submitted by the commission in charge of finalization on February 27, 2023”, indicates the document.
The same source underlines that “His Excellency the President of the transition congratulates the members of the drafting commission of the preliminary draft constitution and those of the commission in charge of finalizing the draft constitution”.
According to the government, “the president of the transition, determined to work for the deep aspirations of the Malian people, has decided to present the draft constitution to the living forces of the nation on March 20, 2023”.
Furthermore, “the Head of State instructed the members of the government to take ownership of the draft Constitution and to take all the appropriate measures in order to proceed with its popularization among our brave populations”.
Remember that the revision of the Constitution is not unanimous within the political class. The Framework for Exchange of Political Parties and Groups, which is part of the opposition, recommends that this project be placed on the agenda of the president who will be elected at the end of the transition.
