The Burkinabè government adopted, Wednesday, March 29 in the Council of Ministers, a request for approval for the appointment of an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) to Burkina Faso, with residence in Dakar in Senegal.

“The Council has given its agreement to the appointment of Mr. CHAE Hui Chol, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to Burkina Faso, with residence in Dakar, Senegal”, indicates the press release published after the meeting.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivia Rouamba, Burkina Faso once maintained “very good relations with North Korea, which was a privileged partner during the period of the August 1983 Revolution”.

The head of Burkinabe diplomacy believes that “this resumption of diplomatic relations with North Korea will enable this East Asian country and Burkina Faso to maintain exemplary bilateral cooperation in several areas such as the security sector , through the granting to our country of military equipment and materials, the mining, health, agriculture and research sectors”.

Burkina has been facing a situation of insecurity since 2015. The leader of the ruling junta, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has made the fight against terrorism one of his priorities.
