Germany has decided to declare Chad’s ambassador to Berlin, Mariam Ali Moussa, persona non grata, in response to the expulsion of its ambassador Jean Christian Gordon Kricke by N’Djamena last week.
The German Foreign Ministry says it has given Mariam Ali Moussa 48 hours to leave German territory, while regretting the fact that the “unfounded expulsion” of Gordon Kricke led to this measure.
In a press release published on April 8, the day after the Chadian decision, German diplomacy declared that “the reasons for which the government of Chad declared our Ambassador in N’Djamena persona non grata are absolutely incomprehensible”.
N’Djamena had justified his decision “by the discourteous attitude and the non-respect of diplomatic practices by the German Ambassador, as prescribed by the Vienna Convention”.
A Chadian government source had also indicated that Gordon Kricke was reproached for his “interference in the internal politics of Chad” and for his “remarks tending to divide Chadians”, and would have received several “calls to order” in connection.
But for Germany, its ambassador, who had already held similar positions in Niger and Angola, is an exemplary diplomat.
