The Japanese government announced on Tuesday the next African tour by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida from April 30.

This trip will take him to Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and Mozambique, according to Japanese government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno, speaking at a press conference.

According to Matsuno, the Prime Minister’s tour will aim to strengthen cooperation between the continent and members of the G7, the group of seven most advanced economies in the world, of which Japan currently holds the rotating presidency.

“Cooperation with major African countries to tackle international issues is significant for Japan,” he said.

He also said that this trip will take place before the next G7 Summit, scheduled for Hiroshima from May 19 to 21.

Like several heavyweights in the world, Japan, beyond its presidency of the G7, also has the ambition to position itself in Africa.

During the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-8), held in August 2022 in Tunisia, the Japanese Prime Minister announced an envelope of 30 billion dollars of investments in Africa over three years, and the training of more than 300,000 Africans in several fields.
