The Senegalese Head of State, Macky Sall, returned, Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, to the recent demonstrations that the country experienced and which resulted in 16 deaths, according to the press release published at the end of the meeting. .
He took the opportunity to present his saddened condolences to the nation and to the families of the victims, while assuring them of the support and presence of the State at their side. Just as he wished a speedy recovery to the wounded civilians, police and gendarmes.
The Senegalese leader also praised the remarkable professionalism and the effective republican posture of the defense and security forces which made it possible to control, despite everything, the unprecedented violence of malicious attacks, and to stop acts of vandalism and organized crime. readings.
He strongly condemned these extremely serious characterized attacks against the State, the Republic and its institutions and against the Senegalese nation through human violence, acts of ransacking against public and private property and cyber-attacks against strategic sites of the Government and vital public services, whose objective was undoubtedly to sow terror and bring the country to a standstill.
Macky Sall reminded the Government of the imperative need to protect the Republic and preserve the nation in the face of the attacks which have become recurrent and multifaceted aimed at paralyzing our economy, undermining Senegal’s reference brand image which remains, above all, a great democracy.
Also according to the press release, faced with the disproportionate gravity of the facts, the President reiterated his determination to protect the Nation, the State, the Republic, its values, and its foundations. To this end, he ordered the opening of immediate and systematic judicial investigations to shed light on the responsibilities related to these events.
He asked the government to prepare a comprehensive memorandum on the deaths, acts of vandalism and defiance of the state perpetrated during these demonstrations; as well as to make an exhaustive assessment of the economic losses and the material damage caused to have an exact evaluation of the damages suffered.
In addition, the Head of State particularly wanted to reassure his compatriots and foreign guests living on the national territory, on the measures taken to preserve the stability of the country and the safety of people and property.
