Former Guinean Prime Minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana, accused of embezzlement, money laundering, illicit enrichment, corruption and complicity, was questioned on Tuesday July 11 by Judge Francis Kova Zoumanigui of the Court of Repression of Offenses Economics and Finance (CRIEF).
He answered questions from his hospital bed, in the resuscitation room, at the Pasteur clinic in Kaloum, in the presence of his lawyer, Me Dinah Sampil, who later spoke to the press.
“The court came to see the physical condition of Ibrahima Kassory Fofana, which was done. We attended the presentation of the attending physician on his state of health, questions were asked to the doctor and to the patient himself,” he said.
He “was only able to answer the judge’s questions using gestures and an inaudible voice that the doctor had to repeat for the attention of the Court and the parties”, continued the lawyer, adding that his case is quite serious, “his heart rate is between 89 and 95 beats per minute” beyond the normal limit which is 60 to 75.
Fofana “is on a drip and under cardiac monitoring to determine if it is necessary to assist him to avoid a catastrophe”, also declared Me Sampil.
The former Prime Minister asked for the possibility of being treated in a specialized center, as the treating doctors would have recommended. Due to his critical state of health, the hearing has been postponed until July 17 for the continuation of the proceedings before the CRIEF.
Ibrahima Kassory Fofana was Prime Minister from May 2018 until the September 2021 coup that overthrew the regime of President Alpha Condé. He had been arrested in April 2022.
