The question of the formation of the new government of the Sacred Union of the Nation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is of concern to civil society.
While Prime Minister Sama Lukonde Kyenge, recently appointed, is in consultation for the choice of members to be part of the new cabinet, recommendations are multiplying from different structures.
The Standing Committee of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO) sent, in this context, a message to President Félix Tshisekedi, relayed by the local press on Monday and entitled “Tear your heart and not your clothes.” The People are still waiting ”.
The Catholic bishops believe that “only men and women who have demonstrated ethics in their past and who have experience in the required field, concerned about the well-being of the population, deserve to be co-opted to manage state institutions and public enterprises ”.
For them, “the people will be frustrated to see those who have participated in the looting, insecurity (…) and show no sign of repentance and conversion come back to power.”
On February 26, the National Civil Society Consultation Framework (CCNSC) also expressed its concerns in an exchange between its delegates and the new Prime Minister.
“We returned to the concerns of the population during this time, socio-economic concerns, issues of governance, security governance, even the administration of justice, but also we recommended, this time, that the rigor should be the principle in the appointment of members of the government ”, then indicated to the press Bashombe Matabishi, coordinator of the CCNSC.
The movement also extended its hand to the Prime Minister by sharing the skills present within civil society “which can come in support of this government because it is a government of national unity, a government resulting from the Union. sacred to the nation ”.
