The Malagasy Minister of Mines and Strategic Resources, Brice Randrianasolo, chose to resign Thursday, following the controversies caused by his appointment, particularly in connection with his past.
Member of the government reshuffled on August 15 by President Andry Rajoelina, the resigning minister explained, during a press briefing, having submitted his resignation “for the sake of appeasement and in the best interests of the Nation” .
On social networks, Internet users have, in fact, commented on concerns that the minister would have had with the justice system following, according to them, acts of fraud both in his country and abroad.
“Indeed, I was warned in a legal case brought before the Court of First Instance of Antananarivo, but media manipulation omitted or deliberately omitted to highlight the fact that I was released during the related trial”, Randrianasolo pointed out.
“This decision (to resign) was tough, but it turns out to be the most reasonable one in the best interests of the Nation. And above all, for me, becoming a minister was not a goal but a step allowing me to contribute to the development of our dear homeland “, he continued.
Considering himself the victim of media manipulation, Randrianasolo does not rule out filing a complaint against people who have been busy smearing him on the Internet.
The head of state thanked all his ministers on August 12, promising an imminent cabinet reshuffle. Three days earlier, he had urged members of the government to initiate, within 72 hours, economic reforms in order to curb the rise in prices. Only the Prime Minister had retained his post. And the new cabinet was appointed in consultation between the two men.
