The Beninese government decided, Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, to set up a Tourism Development Committee, with the aim of promoting the country as a tourist destination.

“As a logical continuation of the massive investments intended for the development of tourism in our country, the government is undertaking the no less important stage of promoting Benin as a destination, which ultimately aims to be one of the most popular on the continental level, even international”, explains the press release published after the meeting.

The mission of the committee will be to analyze, propose, monitor-evaluate and optimize the direct and indirect areas contributing to the achievement of this objective.

It is up to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts to make arrangements for the regular operation of the Committee set up, commensurate with the stated ambitions.

President Patrice Talon aims to position Benin as a major tourist destination on the continent and in the world. To achieve his vision, he implemented a vast reform project initiated at all levels of the value chain. Some projects have already been carried out, such as the capacity building of tourist guides and the reform of the system for granting approvals, licenses and classification of tourist companies.

Tourism is Benin’s most important source of foreign currency earnings, after cotton.
