The former interim president of the ruling party (Union for Democracy and Social Progress, UDPS), Jean-Marc Kabund, attacked President Felix Tshisekedi on Monday, whom he considered “a danger at the top of State”.

Radiated from the UDPS in January, following conflicts with the head of state and his entourage, Kabund made a media outing during which he spoke about his political future.

He announced the creation of his new party because, according to him, “a new political offer is needed” in the face of Tshisekedi’s “incompetence”. “It is over, there is nothing more to hope for with President Tshisekedi and the UDPS which have failed. The power in place is incapable. I ask the people to mobilize to oust Félix Tshisekedi from power,” he told reporters in his private residence in Kinshasa.

His new formation, “Alliance for Change”, wants to be, according to his words, “the champion of the practice of equity, justice and law, protection and social security, as well as the quest permanent shared happiness; by achieving an intelligent balance between the state, employers and employees, by implementing new mechanisms for the equitable redistribution of the country’s wealth, and control of public finances while fighting corruption, impunity, tribalism , influence peddling, clientelism, nepotism, and yawning laxity, in the management of public affairs”.

Faced with the “gropings” of the current regime in the management of the country, and the “unrealizable promises” which have become “as a mode of management”, Kabund says he wants to impose “order and discipline in this country”. Referring to the 2023 presidential election, he said he will not accompany anyone, and will spare no effort to conquer power.

Jean-Marc Kabund, then vice-president of the National Assembly, was also forced to resign last March, following the confidence that was withdrawn from him by the deputies of the presidential party. Elected from Mount Amba (Kinshasa), he kept his seat in the lower house of Parliament and is a member of the political, administrative and legal commission (PAJ).
