Former African Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers, participating in the 14th Edition of the MEDays International Forum, held from November 2 to 5, 2022 in Tangier (Morocco), under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, launched a Solemn appeal (Tangier Appeal) for the expulsion of the pseudo-“rasd” entity from the ranks of the African Union (AU).

They expressed themselves within the framework of the round table organized on November 4 under the theme of “The African Union in the light of the question of the Moroccan Sahara”.

These former officials estimated, in their Appeal, that this “artificial entity”
– joined the AU in violation of Articles 3(b) and 4(b) of the Constitutive Act of the African Union;
– was imposed on the Organization of African Unity/African Union alone, against all legitimacy and legality;
– does not obey any of the constituent elements of a State, namely a territory, a population, and an effective government;
– is without sovereignty and non-independent;
– has no international legal responsibility;
– is without added value which hinders the effectiveness of the African Union;
– threatens African unity and political and economic integration, as well as regional stability and security.

They requested from the Amadeus Institute and its partner African Think Tanks the production of a “White Paper” bringing together their analyzes and their reasoned recommendations, resulting from this round table as well as from conferences and meetings held previously in several countries. from the continent.

The signatories of the Appeal have also decided to establish a “Contact Group” responsible for bringing this “Call from Tangier”, supported by the aforementioned “White Paper” to African Heads of State and decision-makers in African Union.

Moreover, these former Prime Ministers and heads of diplomacy have decided to remain mobilized for the achievement of this objective, which is necessary for the credibility of the African Union, and therefore for the future of the continent.

It should be noted that as a prelude to their Appeal, the signatories, among other things, saluted and commemorated the historic work of the Casablanca Group, its pan-Africanist ideals and the memory of its illustrious Host, the Late His Majesty King Mohammed V. They say they are inspired by the Ideals of the Founding Fathers of Pan-Africanism, promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and effective economic cooperation among the independent and sovereign States of Africa.

These personalities who formulated the “Call from Tangier” and members of the “Contact Group” are from Djibouti, the Central African Republic, Eswatini, Liberia, Gabon, Malawi, Senegal, Guinea and Kenya.
