The White House hosted, for the United States/Africa summit, which is being held from December 13 to 15, all African countries except those under African Union sanctions because of the military State (Sudan, Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea-Conakry), Eritrea, with which Washington says it has no diplomatic relations, as well as the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (rasd).

The American president had to align himself with the position taken by his predecessor Donald Trump, to recognize the Moroccanness of the Sahara and support the territorial integrity of Morocco. The sard has thus not received its invitation card for the Washington summit.

Chad, although led by a soldier who took power by force, is not counted among the non-invited countries because it is not suspended by the Pan-African organization.

The Summit opened its work on Tuesday in Washington, in the presence of several African heads of state and government, not to mention American officials.

During 3 days, participants will have the opportunity to discuss several issues, including the Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and its repercussions, food security, climate change, security, investments and health. .

In general, it will be a question of strengthening cooperation between the United States and Africa in various fields. Washington is keen to reaffirm its interest in the continent, after the presidency of Donald Trump, who distinguished himself by a certain lack of interest in African countries.

To do so, the United States does not hesitate, among other things, to criticize Chinese and Russian policy on the black continent.

“When it comes to China, you see that they are expanding their footprint on the continent on a daily basis and not always transparently in terms of what they are doing and that could have a destabilizing effect if it’s not already happening. , while Russia sends cheap arms and mercenaries” to some African countries, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin told a forum on Tuesday.
