The French Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, paid a 24-hour working visit to Abidjan, the Ivorian capital, to launch major infrastructure projects there with the authorities.
He had discussions with various Ivorian authorities. After his meeting with President Alassane Ouattara, Le Maire told the press that “the purpose of my visit is obviously to mark the concrete launch of the implementation of major infrastructure projects, here in Abidjan, the metro to which we attach with Prime Minister Patrick Achi, a very particular importance and the project of extension of the international airport Félix Houphouet Boigny.
For him, the Abidjan Metro is “one of the largest infrastructure projects on the continent. It is an ambitious project, it is a social project which will benefit millions of inhabitants of Abidjan on a daily basis, which will improve the daily life of each and everyone. And it is a project that marks the brotherly bond that binds Côte d’Ivoire and France.
As for the extension of the airport, Bruno Le Maire considered that these works are the “symbol of the success of Côte d’Ivoire under the authority of the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara”.
Prime Minister Achi, for his part, welcomed the visit of the French Minister of Economy. “It is an extremely important moment to see the start of the flagship projects which will completely transform the appearance of the city, improve its fluidity, while giving a strong signal on the quality of our relations highlighting win-win projects”, he said after his meeting with Bruno Le Maire.
During a meeting with young Ivorian entrepreneurs, the French Minister of Economy showed his country’s desire to support Ivorian entrepreneurship.
“There is a whole economy that is emerging here in Abidjan which is extremely dynamic in the field of tourism, teak, health, insurance, the banking sector. We must massively support these young entrepreneurs. It is very important to support this Ivorian entrepreneurship massively. This is a new aspect of cooperation between our two countries to which I attach great importance,” said Le Maire.
