The terrorist movement Daesh claimed responsibility, this Monday, January 16, for the bomb attack which targeted the day before a Protestant church located in the city of Kasindi, in North Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ).

The attack killed 10 people and injured 39 others, according to the official report. Before the publication of the terrorist group, the government, after condemning the attack, indexed ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) terrorists who are rebels of Ugandan origin, active in the east of the country and having pledged allegiance to Daesh since 2019.

The Head of State, Felix Tshisekedi, said he was “very saddened by this heinous crime” and promised that the culprits “will be prosecuted, arrested, tried and severely punished”. From the outset, the army announced the arrest of a Kenyan suspected of having participated in the attack.

The tragedy sparked several other reactions both locally and internationally. For the Nobel Peace Prize winner, the Congolese Denis Mukwege, it is up to the entire nation to “stand up to demand the return of security in the provinces in conflict and put an end to the culture of impunity which fuels the repetition of atrocities against civilian populations”.

The UN Mission in the DRC (Monusco) spoke of a “cowardly and despicable attack”.
