The Nigerien deputies unanimously adopted, this Thursday, June 22 during a plenary session held in Niamey the capital, the text of the new national anthem “The honor of the fatherland”.
More specifically, the Parliamentarians approved the law modifying the first article of the Constitution, with a view to replacing the national anthem by “L’anthem de la République” and the Nigerian anthem by “L’honneur de la patrie”, in accordance with the fundamental law of November 25, 2010.
The initiative was taken to correct certain shortcomings identified in the text. A committee of experts was set up in 2019 to propose a new national anthem. It is now done.
According to the local press, the new anthem promotes certain values such as equality, freedom, fraternity, patriotism and even national unity.
The government, through its Minister of Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts, Mohamet Hamid, hailed a decisive moment in the history of Niger, which has endowed itself with a major legal instrument. He congratulated the deputies who, by their “massive vote”, showed “the sense of responsibility and patriotism” which drives them.
