The first vice-president of the National Assembly in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Jean-Marc Kabund, sent a letter to the president of the hemicycle to make official the resignation he had announced last January on Twitter.
He gave this information, this Thursday, March 31, again through his Twitter account. « Today, I have resigned from my position as 1st Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo, » he wrote. As if to convince, Kabund also published the letter addressed to the President of the National Assembly and his colleagues.
He explained the abandonment of this post by “reasons of political conviction”. But, for the rest of the current legislature, he will focus on his mandate as a national deputy, he said.
Some were waiting for Kabund to officially hand over his apron. Two weeks after he announced his resignation in January, his political family, the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), disavowed him by removing him from his post as acting president, and excluding him straight out of its ranks.
« Given the seriousness of the breaches charged to him, the national disciplinary commission takes the following sentences: forfeiture of Mr. Jean-Marc Kabund, of all his functions within the UDPS Tshisekedi », had then indicated the disciplinary commission party.
Jean-Marc Kabund has acted as interim President Félix Tshisekedi within the ruling party since he came to power in 2019.
