Togo inaugurated, on Thursday, a consulate general in Dakhla, during a ceremony co-chaired by its Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Togolese Abroad, Robert Dussey, and the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, of African Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad, Nasser Bourita.

Dussey reiterated, on this occasion, Lomé’s firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and its territorial integrity.

The number of consulates open in the southern provinces now stands at 26, including 14 in Dakhla and 12 in Laayoune, demonstrating real international support for the Kingdom of Morocco in the conflict between it and the separatist movement the « Polisario », supported , hosted, financed and armed by neighboring Algeria.

The head of Togolese diplomacy also announced, on Twitter, that Togolese are now exempt from visas to enter Morocco, under an agreement signed Lome and Rabat this Thursday in Rabat.

“Dear fellow citizens, I am delighted to announce to you in the name of the President of the Republic, that from this day July 21, all Togolese holders of the ordinary passport of our country can enter and leave Morocco (vice versa) without visa,” he said.

According to his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, this agreement, which is valid for citizens of both countries, “reflects the quality of human relations between the two countries”.
