The main opposition leader in Chad, Succès Masra, went to court on Friday, responding to a summons from the public prosecutor of N’Djamena received the day before.
“I will answer present (…) I will go walking and singing for the freedom of the people (…) I will not be alone”, declared the president of the party “The Transformers”, this morning on Twitter before leaving his house .
Indeed, according to the testimonies, Masra was accompanied by a long procession of several hundred sympathizers whom he asked to « walk with dignity » and to « respect order and not touch anything ».
The opponent honored the summons without knowing the reason for which he was arrested. At least, his invitation comes days after his party’s headquarters in N’Djamena and the arrest of dozens of young party activists for « prohibited demonstration and disturbing public order », who were later released.
The “Transformers” party has boycotted the ongoing inclusive political dialogue in the country, like other political formations, civil society organizations and armed rebel groups.
The dialogue, wanted by the President of the Transition, General Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, should lead to elections to return power to civilians. Already some participants have slammed the door of the forum to protest against certain decisions taken.
