The Ivory Coast stakes more than one billion FCFA for the return of 500 Ivorians from Tunisia

The authorities of Côte d’Ivoire announced, Wednesday, a sum of more than one billion FCFA necessary to finance the operation of repatriation of 500 Ivorians who would be in distress in Tunisia, according to a communication made by the spokesperson of the government, Amadou Coulibaly, following a Council of Ministers.

“The Council has been informed of all the measures taken by the Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to Tunisia, since February 22, 2023, in relation to the events that have occurred in this country. Thus, around 800 of our compatriots in distress have been registered and housed in dignified and acceptable conditions”, informs the press release signed by Coulibaly, also Minister of Communication and the Digital Economy.

Of this number, 500 are volunteers to return to Côte d’Ivoire, specifies the same source which indicates that the Council has given its agreement to charter the national company, Air Côte d’Ivoire, for the transport of those among our compatriots who wish return to the country. Financial assistance is provided to facilitate their social reintegration.

« The whole of this operation, both the cost of transport, the financial aid provided in Tunisia and the savings that will be granted to them, will cost the State of Côte d’Ivoire, a little more than one billion FCFA », stressed the minister.
