The Tunisian President, Kaïs Saïed, decided, Thursday, May 4, by decree, to dismiss from the government Neila Nouira Gonji, Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy who occupies this post October 2021.
“The President of the Republic signed a decree on Thursday putting an end to the functions of Mrs. Naila Gonji, Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy”, announces a press release from the Presidency published on his Facebook page.
The text does not give any details on the causes of this dismissal or the identity of his successor. The local press, however, points to remarks made by the minister earlier in the day, concerning a program of orientation of the compensation relating to fuel.
She reportedly said that “the government is studying assumptions for the subsidy system and their direction in a strict way. We are at the last stage and in the next few days we will finalize the work, then the dates of the increases that could be approved for fuels will become clear”.
And to add, « there is a complete vision concerning the orientation of the subsidy system for Tunisian families and certain economic categories ».
The Tunisian leader has distinguished himself lately with mass dismissals. The government formed in October 2021 has already recorded, at the beginning of this year, the forced departure of the Minister of Trade and Export Development, Fadila al-Rabihi, the Minister of Education, Fathi al-Salouti, and the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Mahmoud Hamza
Interior Minister Taoufik Charafeddine announced his resignation last March.
