The Gabonese opponent Séraphin Akure-Davain, removed from the executive board of Guy Nzouba Ndama’s « Les Démocrates » (LD) party, launched his own political formation on Thursday, May 11, called « Free Democrats ».

Suspected of being too close to power, Akure-Davain was sidelined on May 8 by his original party, which had to appoint someone else to his post as interim president.

But Akure-Davain, recognizing a “cohabitation (…) now more than difficult” with his “friends” or his “former friends”, made it clear that it was he who left the ship. “Even if they want us to believe today that it is them who put us out, in truth it is we who leave,” he said.

Speaking about the positioning of his party, he indicated that he “is anchored in the Gabonese opposition. It is an opposition party. I say it, and I say it again. That it is well heard by all and well understood. The Free Democrats are in the Gabonese opposition, a real opposition, a frank opposition, an opposition whose objective is to ensure that our country knows better days.

The ambition of the opponent is « to seize power in all its forms ». “We are here, not to make up the numbers. But to take power. Take power in all its forms,” he said.

The new formation is legally recognised. Its leader, who had apprehended his sidelining, has already had to take the necessary steps. “Yes the child was born, we must cherish it and accompany it,” he assured.
