Germany, which had promised to support Niger in the project to build its first military reference hospital, took action by signing, on Friday June 2, a financing agreement with the Nigerien State, on the occasion of the visit of the German Parliamentary State Secretary for Defence, Siemtje Moller, to Niamey.

According to the communication service of the Nigerien Ministry of National Defence, the construction work will be launched in about two months. « The laying of the first stone for the construction of the future jewel is scheduled for next August, » it says.

The Nigerien Minister of National Defense, Alkassoum Indattou, who signed the agreement, welcomed its outcome. This “very important project will allow Niger to have a military hospital (…) will be a reference for all the armies of the sub-region”, he estimated.

Both parties welcomed their fruitful partnership. As a reminder, Siemtje Moller’s visit came after that of the German Minister of National Defence, Boris Pistorius, from April 12 to 13 in Niger. Germany had announced, on this occasion, a strengthening of its military cooperation with Niger in the context of the fight against terrorism.
