On Thursday May 16, Chad’s Constitutional Council confirmed Mahamat Idriss Déby’s victory in the first round of the May 6 presidential election. According to his figures, the President of the Transition obtained 61% of the vote, followed by his Prime Minister Succès Masra with 18.54% and Albert Pahimi Padacké with 16.93%; the turnout was 75.78%. Opponents Masra and Padacké had lodged appeals following the proclamation of provisional results by the Agence nationale de gestion des élections (ANGE). While the former sought the annulment of the ballot, the latter sought the annulment of votes in five provinces. But their appeals were rejected by the Council for lack of evidence to support their allegations of fraud. Mahamat is expected to be sworn in in the coming days for a five-year term at the head of the country; but the date has not yet been set. #OMA #OrganisationMarocAfrikaCulturesetDéveloppement #NajibKettani #Politics #Chad #PresidentialElection #ConstitutionalCouncil #MahamatIdrissDeby #Victory
