The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, has been appointed facilitator of the transition process in Chad, at the end of the 2nd extraordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), held this Tuesday, October 25 in Kinshasa.
This summit was devoted exclusively to the process of political transition in Chad, within the framework of the Council for Peace and Security in Central Africa. The country is indeed going through a political crisis; part of the opposition calling for an end to the transition led by President Mahamat Idriss Deby.
Last week, around 50 people lost their lives in clashes between police and demonstrators who took to the streets at the call of some opposition leaders.
The summit condemned the use of violence for political purposes and issued a message of peace to the government as well as to the people of Chad.
The DRC has held the presidency of ECCAS since January 2022. Tshisekedi promised to spare no effort to bring peace to Chad and the Central African region.
ECCAS has 11 countries, including Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad.
