The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) of Morocco and the United States Armed Forces kicked off the 19th edition of the « African Lion » exercise, during a ceremony held Monday at the headquarters of the State. -Major of the South Zone in Agadir, in the center of the Kingdom, according to a press release from the General Staff of the FAR.
These joint maneuvers, organized by the two armies, will be held until June 16, with the participation of other countries.
The opening ceremony was an opportunity to present the theme of the exercise and the various activities on the program of this joint multinational exercise.
This is, according to the press release, the operational planning exercise for the senior staff of the « Task Force », the land, sea, air and combined tactical exercises, day and night.
A combined exercise of special forces, airborne operations, a military field hospital providing surgical-medical services for the benefit of the population, and exercises to fight against weapons of mass destruction, are as many other maneuvers planned.
The exercises will take place in seven regions of Morocco, namely Agadir, Tiznit and Tafnit (center), Tan-Tan and Mahbas (Sahara region), Kenitra and Ben Guerir (north).
According to the General Staff of the FAR, « African Lion » is an exercise which « contributes to consolidating Moroccan-American military cooperation and to strengthening exchanges between the armed forces of different countries, with a view to promoting security and stability in the region”.
